Vitreoretinal Specialty Clinic
Lucknow's premier reference center for complex retina and macula surgeries
Expert Posterior Segment Care
The retina is the light-sensitive neural layer lining the back of the eye. Diseases of the retina require specialized diagnostic tools and micro-precision surgical interventions. Our unit, led by **Dr. Shobhit Kackar**, is equipped to handle complex surgical cases of the retina, vitreous humor, and macula.
Retinal Conditions We Treat
Diabetic Retinopathy
Uncontrolled blood sugar damages retinal micro-vessels. We offer medical management, green laser photocoagulation (PRP), and intravitreal anti-VEGF injections to prevent vision loss.
Retinal Detachment
A surgical emergency where the retina pulls away from its underlying tissue. We perform sutureless 23G/25G micro-incision vitrectomies, using silicone oil or gas tamponade to secure the retina.
Macular Hole & Membranes
Growth of scar tissue on the macula can warp central vision. We perform vitrectomies with Internal Limiting Membrane (ILM) peeling to close macular holes and restore lines.
Age-Related Macular Degeneration (ARMD)
Affects central reading vision in older adults. We treat 'wet' ARMD using anti-VEGF drug injections (Eylea, Accentrix, Lucentis) to arrest choroidal neovascular membranes.
Intravitreal Anti-VEGF & Implant Therapies
For conditions like diabetic macular edema, retinal vein occlusions, and wet macular degeneration, we deliver targeted pharmaceutical therapy inside the vitreous cavity. We administer approved anti-VEGF agents and sustained-release dexamethasone implants (Ozurdex) under strict operating theatre sterility guidelines.
Retina FAQ
What is Sutureless Vitrectomy (MIVS)?
Micro-incision Vitrectomy Surgery (MIVS) uses small 23-gauge or 25-gauge instruments (less than 1 mm) to enter the eye. Because the entries are tiny, the wounds self-seal without sutures, reducing pain and accelerating healing.
Why do I need to maintain a face-down position after retinal surgery?
If a gas or silicone oil bubble is placed inside the eye to hold the retina in position, floating physics requires you to keep a face-down posture so the bubble presses against the retinal break, facilitating closure.
Are intravitreal injections painful?
No. The eye is thoroughly anesthetized using topical drops. The injection is performed in a sterile environment using a fine microneedle, and the process takes only a few seconds, with most patients reporting minimal discomfort.
Schedule a retinal consultation
Dilated retinal examinations require eye-drops that blur near vision for 3 to 4 hours. We recommend having a companion accompany you.
